Iraq Health Access Organization attended an emergency meeting with a group of local organizations and representatives from the Anbar Health Department, to discuss the suffering of the people of Al-Ankur region in Anbar due to the low water levels in Habbaniyah Lake. Rapid response mechanisms and search for appropriate solutions to help the people of the region in these difficult circumstances were discussed.
More than 9,000 Iraqis consider the area of Al-Ankur, which is located near the district of Ramadi in Anbar Governorate, as their home. Many of them depend heavily on catching fish from Lake Habbaniya, which is located near it. Right now, they are going through a serious crisis as a result of the low level of the Euphrates River and the drying up of Lake Habbaniyah. It led to the water pumping to the area to stop, which consequently led to the cutting off of drinking water for the citizens and the loss of Lake Habbaniyah its fish wealth, which is a source of livelihood for the families of the village of Al-Ankur.
