The first meeting of the working group was held to manage programs to respond to issues of gender-based violence, led by the Women’s Empowerment Department. In the presence of the Iraq Health Access Organization, and the relevant government agencies. The session was opened by Dr. Yousra Kareem Mohsen, Director General of the Women’s Empowerment Department, where she stressed the importance of the team’s role and coordination of work efforts to address issues of gender-based violence in Iraq, in accordance with the national strategy to combat gender-based violence.
The specific objectives of the Coordination Working Group and the guidelines for working within the group during the transitional phase from humanitarian response to sustainable development were discussed. The structure of the group, as well as discussing the roles and responsibilities of the General Coordinator, handled by the Women’s Empowerment Department, and the deputy coordinator of the group, which is the Iraq Health Access Organization and technical and logistical support by the United Nations Population Fund – Iraq.
