Around the world, millions of girls are married each year before the age of 18. In Iraq, 28% of girls are married before the age of 18 and 7% are married before the age of 15. Child marriage is a human rights violation. Every child has the right to be protected from early marriage. Marriage should be a free and voluntary union between two consenting adults whom are over 18.
This week, Iraq Health Access Organization, supported by UNFPA – Iraq, and funding from Norway and Sweden, did awareness raising sessions in GBV centers and outside of the centers, through the mobile teams. Spreading the message of the side effects and harmfulness of child marriage..
